PRIVATE UTILITY LOCATor
FOR UTILITY LOCATes & mapping
A Utility Locator should always be used before excavation begins to locate buried utilities & underground pipes. Whether it is on private property, a right-of-way or on a construction project, it is imperative to know where the lines and pipes lie beneath the surface. There may be many circumstances which make it difficult to determine what private utilities and underground pipes were buried in the past ...drawings and as-builts get misplaced, ...as-builts are not updated as utilities are repositioned, ...when services are installed without tracer wires or tracing mechanisms. All of this makes it difficult to know what lies ahead of your excavation without a utility locate survey.
Why We Use GPR
It is a critical tool in completing utility locates successfully in the conditions stated above. With its Real-Time capability our GPR Survey Technicians can locate and mark utilities and services within minutes of arriving at the site. Using this technology our technician can mark-out concrete, metallic or plastic conduits and other services indicating position and depth to the target and also map utilities on your site plan.
Our Utility Locate Methods
Global GPR Technicians often collect data for the utility locating survey area in a grid format. A GPR survey grid ensures more area is covered and unknown targets can be discovered and ensure complete coverage of the subject area. Traditional electromagnetic (EM) locate equipment requires the transmitting antenna be in line with the utility when using induction mode or they may be missed. GPR does not have this requirement so services running in an obscure direction can be identified. We can also produce 3D mapped reports with interpreted locations and depths to the utilities plotted to scale on your site plan. This is beneficial in congested areas and also for pre-engineering purposes. You should always contact your "One Call" service or utility companies first to identify where their main utility lines are located before we conduct a comprehensive GPR utility locate survey by one of our utility locators.
